Today, I will brush my teeth

11 Jan

So most parts of my professional life are great. However, there are times when I need to make a thousand phone calls in one day or work on excel spreadsheets all afternoon. These seem to be the days that I get the most done for work, but the least done in other aspects….such as getting dressed, taking a shower, going to workout. Especially when, like today, I don’t feel stellar anyway, it’s hard to be motivated at evening time. But never fail, brushing my teeth will always make me feel refreshed. Not in the “If I put on workout clothes, it feels like I’ve worked out today” kind of way, but I love having wickedly minty breath. Even if there is no one to smell it!

So, if you’re feeling a little sluggish, try my simple trick of brushing your teeth. I make no promises to the effectiveness of my theory, but it works for me.

(Disclaimer: I TOTALLY brush my teeth at least twice a day and floss. My dentist always gives me a “great check-up” sticker)

Cold, Hard, {hilarious} Truths.

5 Dec

1. Sometimes I’ll look down at my watch 3 consecutive times and still not know what time it is.

2. Nothing sucks more than that moment during an argument when you realize you’re wrong.

3. I totally take back all those times I didn’t want to nap when I was younger.

4. There is great need for a sarcasm font.

5. How on earth are you supposed to fold a fitted sheet?

6. Was learning cursive really necessary?

7. Map Quest really needs to start their directions on # 5. I’m pretty sure I know how to get out of my neighborhood.

8. Obituaries would be a lot more interesting if they told you how the person died.

9. I can’t remember the last time I wasn’t at least kind-of tired.

10. Bad decisions make good stories.

11. You never know when it will strike, but there comes a moment at work when you know that you just aren’t going to do anything productive for the rest of the day.

12. Can we all just agree to ignore whatever comes after Blue Ray? I don’t want to have to restart my collection…again.

13. I’m always slightly terrified when I exit out of Word and it asks me if I want to save any changes to my ten-page technical report that I swear I did not make any changes to.

14. I keep some people’s phone numbers in my phone just so I know not to answer when they call.

21. Shirts get dirty. Underwear gets dirty. Pants? Pants never get dirty, and you can wear them forever.

22. Even under ideal conditions people have trouble locating their car keys in a pocket, finding their cell phone, and Pinning the Tail on the Donkey – but I’d bet everyone can find and push the snooze button from 3 feet away, in about 1.7 seconds, eyes closed, first time, every time.

23. The first testicular guard, the “Cup,” was used in Hockey in 1874 and the first helmet was used in 1974. That means it only took 100 years for men to realize that their brain is also important.

Ladies…..Quit Laughing.

Running and I are on a break.

30 Nov

So after a firm “talking-to” from my big brother, Mike, I have decided that I need a break from running. I put so much pressure on myself to be this crazy runner and I always fall short of my expectations (I am a terrible runner, by the way). So after a few tears at the mere mention of running (and some wicked sore knees), my brother firmly told me that it was not normal to hate it this much and that he “didn’t want to hear about you (me) running anymore”. I agreed that it was not normal to cry over running a mile or two.

So, here’s the plan. I am taking the pressure off. I have decided that (at least for the rest of this year) I will no longer force myself to run. Not to say I am going to become lazy and inactive, I just need to remove the pressure of running for a while from my mind. So I am going to explore other forms of exercise. This week, I have hit the bike pretty hard. Which I am enjoying more than I thought I would. I am going to try aerobics classes, yoga, pilates, weight lifting, and other forms of exercise that will still get my heart pumping, but will be less intense on my knees and my emotions.

Call me a baby. Call me a loser. Call me lazy. Just don’t call me late for dinner. :)

Thankful for All.

25 Nov

Today, I am just thankful.

So I admit – I fell off the “bloggin’ wagon”. But I will catch up here:

  • 20th – Safety: Today, I am thankful for safety. I am constantly blessed while I am driving, walking, running or doing something risky that raises the potential for danger. So I am grateful for safety.
  • 21st – Ranch Dressing: Today, I am thankful for Ranch Dressing. I am a little obsessed with it. I eat it with a lot of things you would normally not eat ranch dressing with. Just trust me and try it with rice. You won’t be disappointed.
  • 22nd – No Braces: Today, I am thankful that I never had braces. I know, this is totally shallow, but I am grateful nonetheless.
  • 23rd – Warmth: Today, I am thankful for warmth. A warm house. A warm bed. Warm food. Warm hearts. Warm muscles. Warm sun.
  • 24th (Thanksgiving!) – THANKSGIVING: Today, I am thankful for Thanksgiving. Although I hate Thanksgiving food, I love the idea of thanksgiving. Getting together with those you love and remembering all you are thankful for and all you have been blessed with. I am glad I decided to do this list. It has helped me to take the focus off of myself and be grateful for all that I have been blessed with!

Forgiveness.

19 Nov

Today, I am thankful for forgiveness.

Which is what I’m asking for since I haven’t updated the blog the past 2 days. Yikes! Its just that I will be traveling to California today and may not have access to my computer for a few days….

Thanks!

Cell Phone.

16 Nov

Today, I am thankful for my cell phone.

I should say, my indestructible cell phone. I drop my cell phone, hard, on a weekly basis. I have only intentionally “dropped it across a room” once. But this thing is my life. Is it sad that I can’t imagine a world without cell phones? Seriously, what did we do before cell phones????

Arrested Development.

15 Nov

Today, I am thankful for Arrested Development.

The show. This show is hilarious. It made my day less stressful today. I love that this show is only 3 seasons. So I can watch the whole series rather quickly. I love Jason Bateman. Love him.

People (.com)

14 Nov

Today, I am thankful for People.com.

As many of you know, I am a connoisseur of pop culture. One of the reasons for this is that I look at people.com every day. I know, its a sickness. But I will be the first to tell you that, so it’s OK, right? You will all rue the day you judged me when I finally win a “World Series of Pop Culture”.

Big story today? Brad Pitt will quit acting in 3 years!

Prayer.

13 Nov

Today, I am thankful for prayer.

No matter what religion you are, you can always pray. I love that. If you have faith that someone is listening, your prayers will be heard. I love the power of prayer. I have felt prayers on my behalf and am constantly striving to have my prayers felt by others.

Prayer has brought me closer to my Father in Heaven and his Son, Jesus Christ. I am so grateful for the knowledge of a loving Heavenly Father who listens when I pray, and answers my prayers as He sees fit. No matter what is going on in my life, I always make time to pray. I know my prayers are heard.

Sleep.

12 Nov

Today, I am thankful for sleep.

Not that I’ve gotten much lately. But sometimes it takes the lack of something to show you how much you appreciate it.
